A SHORT BACKGROUND NOTE OF CHILDREN’S DIGNITY FORUM (CDF)
1. Organization Information: The Children’s Dignity Forum (CDF) is a voluntary, private, non-governmental, non-partisan and non-profit-making Civil Society children’s rights organization based in Dar es Salaam as its head quarters, founded and registered in 2006 under the NGO Act No. 24/2002. CDF was created as a direct result of a PhD study carried out at Edinburgh University (UK) by one of the founder members Dr Monica Magoke-Mhoja. The research explores the circumstances under which a female-child encounters early marriage and is then widowed under a plural legal system. The CDF's work is geared towards producing a select range of high-visibility products on children's issues with a view to influencing public attitudes and policy and building the capacity (on legal and human rights issues) of child-focused organizations in Tanzania. It provides a forum for dialogue and discussion on issues affecting children. It seeks to explore new and contentious issues. It "put children FIRST" in all aspects of its work. Currently, CDF is campaigning on child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM) as a violation of children rights.
2.
