    Community Film show screening ( Ghati & Rhobi) in Tarime , 2016

Children's Dignity Forum - CDF organized community video show in Tarime last night called Ghati & Rhobi. The video illustrate the effect of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). This is another advocacy strategy and awareness raising targeting men and women, boys and girls mainly focusing on gender based violence and particularly ending FGM and child marriage to the areas with high prevalence the initiative is supported by the Foundation for Civil Society Tanzania

The International Day of A Girl is commemorated each year on 11th October and it is aimed at raising awareness on the potentials girls have in the community if they are invested on and the challenges young girls face in the communities which needs solution.

    60 Girls receive Start up capital after SIDO Training 2016

Children's Dignity Forum distributes Start up capital to selected 60 girls out of 80 girls who received SIDO training organized by CDF earlier this year .The selected 60 young girls and women were based on the clubs which possessed a registered girls club account and well written business plan recognized by government authority. The Girls Clubs which were provided loans enabled the funds to revolve and used to support other beneficiaries in the targeted areas.

    Monitoring Visits to CDF Established Girls Clubs in Mara region

In September 2016 , Our Child Protection and Participation Officer Ms.Sophia Temba together with Children's Dignity Forum Head of field operations Mara Region Ms.Kambibi Kamugisha paid a visit to the girl's clubs since establishment and the benefits gained from the SIDO trainings provided to the young girls within Nkende, Mwema and Matongo ward in Tarime District.     Press Release Statement the Appeal Against Child Marriage Case

On Thursday 4th August 2016, the Tanzania Ending Child Marriage Network (TECMN) issues a statement in regards to the intention of the office of the Attorney General to appeal against High Court's decision in the case Rebeca Gyumi vs A.G where the High courts judgement rule towards the law of miarriage act as discriminatory and unconstitutional. Tanzania Ending Child Marriage Network (TECMN) Calls on the Government of Tanzania to exercise the protection and promotion of women and girls rights, and as a signatory of the UN Sustainable Development Goals of which Goal 5 is on Gender Equality , and the Africa Union Agenda 2063 ,should aim at eliminating all forms of gender-based violence and discrimination (socially, economically and politically) against women and children so that they fully exercise their human rights.

    Training Police Officers in Mara Region to End GBV & VAC 2016

The Tanzanian Police Force is taking significant steps to strengthen their response to cases of GBV and child abuse, including through the initiatives of the Tanzania Police Female Network . Children’s Dignity Forum (CDF) in collaboration with the Tanzania Police under the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Tanzania has committed to strengthen Gender Response Reporting System (GRRS) in order to provide high quality services for the survivals at all levels. The training aims to equip Gender in charge Police officers, Investigators and Senior Officers on gender equality concepts, women’s human rights, and gender-based violence also to equip them with knowledge which will help them to handle effectively the GBV cases in their respective areas of implementation.

Tanzania Ending Child Marriage Network (TECMN) held a successful meeting yesterday. The discussion among others included how to speed up the advocacy initiatives towards eradicating child marriage. This comes after Tanzania banned Child Marriage. Mrs.Valeria Msoka was elected as a new Chair of the network. TECMN also welcomed new members including Save the Children Tanzania ,Msichana Initiative and PEN Tanzania.

    Girls Entrepreneurship Training June 2016

    Exchange Visit Program - Tanzania

    MenEngage Tanzania Training on Gender Equality 2016

    Sixty teenagers trained on reproductive health in Tarime Distrct

A total of 60 teenagers have received a special training on reproductive health in an effort to curb child marriage, teenage pregnancies and female genital mutilation (FGM) in Tarime District, Mara Region. After undergoing the three day training held in April 2016, students and out of school teenagers will now become peer educators on reproductive health matters in five wards of Sirari, Susuni, Sabasaba, Matongo and Nyamwaga. The initiative which is supported by European Union (EU) under an ambitious project jointly implemented by Children’s Dignity Forum (CDF) and Plan Internationa is expected to save hundreds of girls from undergoing FGM in December 2016.

    MenEngage Africa's workshop 2016

On 18th -21st April 2016 MenEngage Africa's hosted a workshop, in partnership with Tearfund where the MenEngage Tanzania Co-ordinator Ms.Dorothy Ernest from Children's Dignity Forum - CDF is represented together with other country representatives in Africa in Kigali, Rwanda, with partners from networks across 17 countries of the Africa region. .     OPEN MARKET EVENTS

Children's Dignity Forum (CDF) has recently conducted five open market events which targeted the areas where FGM is commonly practiced and where they plan to have FGM season this year. The event was conducted in the evening and involved a total of five wards in Tarime District namely Sirari, Nyamwaga, Susuni, Mwema and Sabasaba. The community members in the mentioned wards gathered in open spaces such as the football ground and the market place which were able to accommodate large number of people, to watch the screening of the animation film the “THE TRUE STORY OF GHATI AND RHOBI” and after which continued with discussions on FGM and its effects to their communities. Through the Open Market Events CDF was able to reach more than 1500 people and this number comprised of both men, women and children.

    TOT on Girls Clubs in Tarime District

CDF has conducted a TOT training with the girls from the various Girl clubs in 5 wards in Tarime District Mara Region, with the aim of getting the young women and girls who will support and raise awareness on FGM to other young girls in their clubs as well as in the community by using the film "THE TRUE STORY OF GHATI AND RHOBI" and the facilitators guide. The momentum of these young women and girls was seen through out the session as they strategize on how they will continue their interventions on advocating for the rights of the girl child.     CDF's - Schools Out Reach

After the launch of the film " The True story of Ghati and Rhobi" in Tarime District in Mara Region and Dar es Salaam CDF has continued to use the film as an advocacy tool to raise more awareness on FGM to children in schools and has been able to do this in 5 wards in Tarime namely Manga, Nyamwagan mwema , Sirari and Susuni wards and have reached students in different schools such as Abinamo, Biswari, Komaswa, Nyamwaga, Bitwari, Keisangora, Mwema Secondary school, Korotambe, Kubiterere, Nyairoma Sirari, Keyiroba Nyabirongo, Kiongera and Kikomori School

    16 days of activism 2015

    International Day of the Girl Child Joint Commemoration 2015

October 11th 2015, was a special day for Children’s Dignity Forum as well as many other stakeholders who have been involved in the fight for girls’ rights, as the community celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child Joint Commemoration. The government of Tanzania, UNFPA, CDF and other key partners organized this special day, which took place at the Tandale Primary School in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, themed appropriately “The Power of an Adolescent Girl: Vision 2030”.

    MyLifeAt15

#MyLifeAt15 brings into focus the fundamental belief that every girl should be able to live her adolescence in purpose and pursuit of achieving her dreams. In the run-up to the International Day of the Girl Child, #MyLifeAt15 calls on all leaders to make ending child marriage a priority to ensure that these dreams can be attained and not cut short by early marriage. As part of the youth dialogues launched, CDF staff and participants took pictures, describing their hopes & dreams at the age of 15.

    Youth Dialogue October 10th 2015

Tanzania Ending Child Marriage Network (TECMN) organized a youth dialogue on October 10th 2015, on “Child Marriage in Tanzania” as part of the pre-event series, towards the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11th 2015. The dialogue was led by Children’s Dignity Forum staff, with youth from several different schools in attendance, youth led organizations, youth out of school and key stakeholders. This dialogue aimed to involve the young people of Tanzania to demonstrate how youth can contribute and become champions in the fight against child marriage as well as advocates for girls’ rights within their community, their youth led groups and youth associations and organization’s as well as in their own families.

    European Commission Activities in Tarime 2015

    COMPREHENSIVE SEXUALITY EDUCATION IN TARIME SCHOOLS

CDF under support from UNFPA is finalizing the planned activity on the sensitization on FGM and Child marriage as part of comprehensive sexuality education in Tarime school .In this one year of the implementation CDF managed to establish 48 school clubs which include 1,440 children both girls and boys, these 48 children clubs were established from 9 wards in Tarime District include Kiore, Manga, Bumera, Mwema, Susuni, Sirari, Nyamaranga, Pemba and Mbogi ward. Therefore under one year/phase one of implementation CDF managed to reach the mentioned clubs. The children were equipped with knowledge on side effect especially health impact of FGM and child marriage and reporting structure existing in their areas as the project aimed at strengthen the capacity of children to understand for their rights and help other especially girls to understand their rights and negative effects of FGM and child marriage.

    INCLUSION OF THE CHILDREN’S ISSUES IN THE 2015 ELECTIONS

Children Agenda Election Committee organized one day meeting for representatives of all political parties, Young Reporters and Children’s Council representatives from Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar to share their views and experience on issues affecting children’s development that may be considered for inclusion in the 2015 elections manifestos of political parties. It is common practice for children’s agenda’s to be determined by adults, while many of the actual facts and details involving children’s experience are overlooked. This year, as we approach general elections and all political parties are finalizing their election manifestos, this was an opportunity to hear children issues directly from them pertaining to health, education, nutrition, safety and security concerns. The meeting took place on Tuesday 26th May, 2105 at Kebbys Hotel, Dar es Salaam.

    High Level Meeting 2015

Children’s Dignity Forum (CDF) under the support of Foundation for Women’s Health Research and Development (FORWARD UK) conducted a High Level Meeting on Thursday 07 May, 2015 to share lessons and recommendations from a three year partnership project in Tanzania on tackling child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM), where about 5,000 girls were rescued from child marriage in Mara region. The projects have received funding from DFID and Comic Relief. The event attended by Government Officials, International Development Partners, Diplomats, the Universities and Local Organisations working on rights of girls and development as well as some project beneficiaries.

    MenEngage Community Mobilization - Tarime

A new project 'MenEngage' aimed to promote the rights of women and children has been launched in Mara Region's Tarime District.     Capacity Building Workshop for MenEngage Africa

On 20th -22th April, 2015, Sonke Gender Justice chairs MenEngage Africa, which consists of 17 country networks across Africa, conducted Capacity building Workshop for MenEngage Coordinators at Entebe Uganda. The purpose was to ensure that project coordinators understood the project deliverables and timeline as well as an opportunity to build capacity in terms of strengthening country network, monitoring activities, reporting and some elements of organizational development.

The Tanzania Ending Child Marriage Network (TECMN) was officially launched in October 11th, 2012 where it also commemorate the first International Day of a Girl Child. The Aim of establishing the TECMN was to end child marriage, a harmful traditional practices that affect children mostly girls, amplify the voices of girls at risk of marriage and defend the rights of girls to health, education and the opportunity to fulfill their life potentials. The TECMN has more than 35 members who have committed to work together to end child marriage in Tanzania.

CDF as one of the Women and Constitution Coalition Members (Wanawake na Katiba Coallition) conducted a successful two days community dialogue in two wards of Vingunguti and Buguruni in Ilala District , Dar es Salaam. The dialogue was made under the support from Women Fund Tanzania (WFT). The aim was to raise awareness among girls and young women on the issues proposed in the Constitution so that they can have the right choice to vote during election process . Among the articles discussed were article 53 which focuses on children’s rights, describing in depth right to a name, a right to be protected against violence and abuse, a right to education and sports, right to land ownership, free from cultural practices which are discriminatory laws, right to participate in giving out opinions, a right for a decent upbringing and a right of not being discriminated. Furthermore, the participants discussed articles that focus on rights of women, elderly people, youth and the disabled, which were not reflected in the current Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania. Lastly, the participants were asked to read and understand the proposed Constitution, register and vote for the referendum of the new Proposed Constitution.

    CAPACITY BUILDING TO ELECTED 504 JUNIOR COUNCIL MEMBERS

In September – October, 2014 CDF under support from UNICEF conducted capacity building workshops for 504 elected children representatives from junior council in 18 wards namely; Nduli Kising’a, Mseke, Luhota, Utengule Usongwe, Inyala, Swaya, Matembwe, Mtwango, Igongolo, Iwawa, Lupalilo, Tandala, Imalilosongwe, Ubaruku, Rujewa, Igombavanu, Rungemba and Sao Hill from six (6) Districts namely Mbeya Rural, Mbarali, Iringa Rural, Mufindi, Makete and Njombe. The newly elected members of the Children’s Councils were trained on Rights and Responsibilities of a child, what is children councils and why children councils?, the function and the importance of the children councils, how to set up or strengthen a children’s council?, the roles of the children’s councils, responsibilities of the council’s members to the council, also at the end of the training the child members developed their work plans for November 2014 - January 2015.

    Sensitization in Tarime Primary Schools

CDF is conducted a sensitization on FGM and Child marriage as part of comprehensive sexuality education in Tarime schools. This is among the planned activities on FGM and child marriage as part of a comprehensive sexuality education in Tarime District, thsi progran is under the technical and financial support of UNFPA the targeted schools were 8 schools from 3 wards that is Mwema ward (kabitere and Mkulima primary schools), Kiore ward ( Nkerege and Nyagisya Primary schools)and Manga ward ( Kembwi and Abinamo Primary schools together with Manga secondary schools. The sensitization was based on establishing and running school clubs where where each club recruited 30 children as club members and the recruitment was gender based hence both boys and girls participate in the clubs. The children were all fron standard Four to six un primary schools and they were trained by the ambassador of anti FGM and Child marriages in their villages. The major aim of this traing was to strengthen the capacity of children to understand their rights and help other children especially girls to become aware and understand their rights and negative effects of FGM and Child marriage.

    Her Excellency Graca Machel's Visit To Tarime District 2015

On 22nd - 24th January 2015 Hon. Graca Machel a Mozambican politician and humanitarian , She is the widow of former South African president Nelson Mandela and of Mozambican president Samora Machel founder of the Graca Machel Trust , together with Children's Dignity Forum Tanzania Team , UNFPA team , UNICEF members , TECMN and other set on a visit to Tarime district where practices of FGM highly takes place the main goal of the visit was to increase the sensitization on the need to end FGM and Child marriage within the district.
